DHR International Announces Appointment of CEO, Charleston Gaillard Center

On behalf of the Nonprofit Practice of DHR International, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Lissa Frenkel as the CEO of the Charleston Gaillard Center.

Lissa is an outstanding executive with two decades of various fundraising, planning, operations, and management experience at reputable arts organizations in NYC. Since 2013, Lissa has estimably served as Managing Director of the Park Avenue Armory. Lissa was among the first staff members hired at the Armory in 2006 when the nonprofit arts management corporation was formed to renovate and program the former National Guard armory building. Lissa played a critical role in launching the organization to the upper echelons of the competitive contemporary visual and performing arts market in NYC. Her early career included roles Project Manager for the Lincoln Center Redevelopment Project and Manager of Special Events for the Museum of the City of New York.

A native of Boston, Lissa has spent time living in the Southeast, having earned her Bachelor of Arts in Art History and International Studies from Emory University. She later earned her master’s degree in Urban Planning from Harvard University.

Lissa brings credible leadership steeped in performing arts knowledge to the Charleston Gaillard Center as it expands its reach and reputation since reopening with brand new facilities in 2015. Lissa will partner with the Gaillard Performance Hall Foundation and the City of Charleston to enhance the brand of the Gaillard, ensure its continued sustainability, and maximize the impact of the Gaillard across the Lowcountry, providing top-notch programming that inspires lives.

Ted Legasey, the Chair of the Search Committee, commented: “We selected exactly the right search firm. James Abruzzo’s broad and deep experience with performing arts leaders across the country, coupled with Phil DeBoer’s executive search skills, led to a good size pool of diverse, highly qualified candidates. The richness of that pool enabled us to select Lissa Frenkel as the Gaillard Center’s next CEO, a choice that exceeded our expectations.”

We are pleased to have partnered with the Charleston Gaillard Center in recruiting Lissa to this important position. Lissa will begin her role in July 2021.
